About this place
The first bite is shaped by more than the sauce. One diner who tried the mochi-and-cheese okonomiyaki at KOTE recalled that the batter was flavourful and generously filled, even with the sauce used sparingly. A similar combination appears in the Kansai Kote-yaki Mochi Cheese, which pairs pork, squid and prawns with mochi and melting cheese. It is a satisfying choice when you want a well-filled pancake. The Kansai Kote-yaki with pork, squid and prawns costs ¥1,200; the mochi-and-cheese version is ¥1,500, so you can choose according to the toppings you fancy.
Alongside the Kansai style, the menu includes Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki. The Hiroshima Special Kote-yaki comes with squid tempura, pork, squid and prawns, plus a choice of soba or udon noodles. That gives you the option of a more substantial noodle-topped meal, as well as two styles to choose from. Away from okonomiyaki, one diner praised the pork yakisoba for its well-cooked noodles, while the Kansai Kote-yaki with pork, squid and prawns was described as moist and generously filled. The Kiwami tonpei-yaki also made an impression for its thick-cut pork loin steak. Whether you make yakisoba the centrepiece or order several teppan dishes, there are different ways to put a meal together.
The noodle dishes include yakisoba described as spicy or habanero. For a little heat, there is spicy pork yakisoba, as well as spicy Kote yakisoba and habanero Kote yakisoba, both with pork, squid and prawns. Diners have also enjoyed switching to spicy noodles and adding cheese or egg, offering ways to tailor a dish to personal taste.
For an evening that begins with small plates, options include potato salad served with wasabi nori, gari tomato and dashi-rolled egg. Beer, wine and chuhai are also available, making it easy to snack on a side dish between bites.
KOTE is on Miyakojima Minami-dori. One visitor reported that the owner runs the restaurant alone, and shared a story of taking their time over dinner while watching a Hanshin game. Another noted bear motifs dotted around the interior. The restaurant is described as suitable for solo diners, with Kansai- and Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, yakisoba and more to choose from.
